BIG THREE HEADLINE CES CONCERT

(published in the local newspaper as part of my board member duties as the Publicity Chair on the Cultural Enrichment Society Board.)

The amazing john Arthur martinez, Drew Womack, and Pauline Reese will grace the shores of Lake LBJ on September 20 in the outdoor pavilion behind Quail Point Lodge in Horseshoe Bay beginning at 7:30 p.m. HSB’s Cultural Enrichment Society is sponsoring these talented musicians. Tickets purchased online at hsbenrichment.org are $10 each, with 100% of the proceeds going to the musicians. Due to the Governor’s guidelines, the audience is limited to 150 people, with social distancing and masks required. Attendees should bring their lawn chairs and beverages. Donations to the artists are encouraged at the event.

HSB is fortunate that the superstar songwriter/musician, john Arthur martinez, lives close to us in a neighboring town. john Arthur came to prominence in the music world after winning second place in the American Idol-styled country music show Nashville Star. The pandemic has almost brought john Arthur and his fellow musicians to their knees, canceling concerts and tours. These are bad times for the very people who enrich our lives with the sweet sounds of music. If you’ve ever met john Arthur, you have experienced the joy that emanates from him and fills the air. john Arthur exudes a love of music from his very core. When asked how the epidemic has impacted him with the numerous cancellations, john Arthur was optimistic. “There’s a silver lining in everything. The more isolated musicians are, the more creative we become.” In the past several months, john Arthur has written eight to ten songs and will share many of them during the concert, as well as old favorites. The Academy of Western Artists has again nominated john Arthur for Western Swing Song of the Year.  His latest album is entitled For the Love of Western Swing.

Drew Womack and his former band, Sons of the Desert, collaborated with Lee Ann Womack in the award-winning blockbuster hit I Hope You Dance. The group racked up three Academy of Country Music Awards, a Country Music Association award, and two Country Music Television awards. The band has since disbanded, and Drew has continued his career as a solo artist. Drew could not perform for a long while due to a severe back injury.  His long road to full recovery inspired many songs about his journey, resulting in his recently released album, Sunshine to Rain. One of the songs on the album, No More Wastin’ Time, is about ending a relationship and encouraging her to go “before I change my mind.”

Pauline Reese is a singer/songwriter, real estate agent, and mother of two daughters. As a woman in the highly competitive, often male-dominated country music industry, she has worked diligently to make music independently and survive. The “Queen of Texas Music” has been nominated for a Grammy, released six albums, recorded two duets with Willie Nelson, performed at six Willie Nelson Picnics, and three Farm Aid festivals.  Her seventh album, Lucky #7, will be released this year. Reese describes the album as being deep, heartfelt, and inspirational. “My purpose is to inspire others. It’s called pulling yourself up by the bootstraps and getting back on the horse that threw you off. Life is a beautiful ride; have faith and believe in yourself.”  Her latest single, Save Your Breath, reveals a woman with her feet firmly planted and lives life on her terms.
