THE SINISTER PLAN FOR MEDICARE

I'm posting this as a public service to my friends and family who are on Medicare or know people on Medicare.  This is not a political statement, just an attempt to inform everyone about what's being planned by Paul Ryan, the Speaker of the House.  Ryan has for some time wanted to change Medicare in two steps.  First, he wants to privatize it.  Since he's a big proponent of drastically reducing/eliminating government entitlement programs, the long-range goal is to completely eliminate Medicare.  Privatizing Medicare means that Medicare monies would flow to the individual covered by Medicare (vouchers to go 'shop' insurance companies).  He/She would then select an insurance company to manage those funds. 
 
I spent my entire career in healthcare and hospital management and experienced firsthand the evilness and greed of insurance companies. This happens when private insurance companies manage your healthcare: They will either deny services every chance they get and/or demand that you are discharged from the hospital or outpatient services as quickly as possible. As everyone knows, insurance companies are in business to make money... They will reduce payments to physicians, who won't be reimbursed if they see you too often, refer you to expensive services, or admit you to the hospital.  And...if the healthcare service believes they were approved for your care but are later denied payment, the healthcare entity will bill YOU.  

Currently, Medicare recipients cannot be billed for hospital stays if Medicare refuses to reimburse the hospital.  In summary, privatizing Medicare means reduced healthcare for you and potentially devastating financial loss.  What can you do?  Write or call your Congressman/Senator and articulate that you DO NOT want Medicare privatized.  Ryan has stated that he plans to introduce his plan soon after January 20.  You must take action now.

UPDATE:  2/5/2023. The Republican majority-led House of Representatives and the Republican Senators are at it again.

MY LIFE WITH TERI FLANAGAN

  (Teri authored a story about me entitled "My Life with Dana Rushing" in the local newspaper after I moved from Horseshoe Bay to Austin. It was a total surprise and touched me beyond words. She is now in hospice at a facility in Marble Falls. Teri's husband has given me permission to publish this story. It will be in The Beacon this week.) Other friends also answered my call to action, but Teri was always the first one I contacted because I was confident she would agree to help. ROSA PARKS AND THE DREAM

I dreamed of Rosa Parks last night.  She was sitting in a seat in the middle of a bus with Black men sitting on both sides of her.  I figured they were bodyguards and had joined her after news got out that this 'uppity Black woman' had dared to take her place amongst the Whites. The days of sitting in the back of the bus were over for her.  She worked long, hard days at low wages for a white family and had to take a bus every...damn...day.  Her great-grandparents had been slaves.  Enough was enough.   She felt she earned something more than a seat at the back of the bus.   She didn't know that this small act would set up a firestorm of millions of people being emboldened by her.  More and more people began speaking out, demonstrating, and even rioting to bring civil rights to the forefront.  The battle continued until, at last, civil rights passed.  Racism became somewhat more subtle over 50 years. But the Rosa Parks I saw in my dreams is still in that seat.
